Over the last year, I've become increasingly active in the St. Louis community.  Some of the things I've done this are:

• Provide a place for the St. Louis DotNetNuke User Group to hold meetings, which has in turn helped
• Help my community to promote the cultural arts.
• Spoke at an SEO seminar geared towards small businesses, hosted by Will Hanke
• Spoke at St. Louis's Day of .Net on Tips & Tricks in DotNetNuke

I feel (whether my coworkers agree or not) that participating in these events has really increased my professional value to an organization.  I also feel that participating in these events has also increased my standing in the community at large.  I may not be considered an expert (I least I hope I'm not, others are far more deserving), but I think that people will consider what I have to say before completely dismissing it.

So because the St. Louis community has given me so much, I'm volunteering at the Coding 4 Charities event Oct. 16 - 18.  I have no idea what I'll be doing, other than using my skills to help a deserving charity get some much needed IT assistance.  I highly encourage any St. Louis area IT professional to take a weekend and help.
